--- F91 ---

Recently, I joined Netflix for.. let's call it industry research. yeah! industry research. I became a little overly involved in Netflix as my Facebook friends could probably tell you from the 692 movie reviews I did the first night I got it all working.

Anyway, I ordered a movie I've been wanting to see for quite some time: Mobile Suit Gundam F91. Being a Gundam fan for many years now I was very excited to see F91 (links to youtube trailer) for the first time.

FAN PROOF!! (I made this silly link for fans) !!

It was a good movie and very well fitting into what I expect from Yoshiyuki Tomino. He is a great director/writer. He apparently doesn't approve of video games, but not everyone is perfect. Though, sometimes I get the feeling he just keeps writing Gundam over and over again.

Here's my rough sketch of Tomino's plots as translated through personal viewing experience, 'word of mouth' and random internet synopses.

Rough sketch:

Characters

  • Boy and Girl introduced and split apart amid erupting war zone
  • Boy is randomly selected as pilot of new experimental super mech (mechanized suit of armor) on 'last ditch effort' flag ship
  • Girl turns trait or symbolically turns trait
  • Boy discovered to be unnaturally natural at piloting mech
  • Girl discovered to be unnaturally natural at piloting mech
  • Boy and Girl sent to battle
  • Someone in love with or jealous of Girl dies
  • Boy meets Girl in battle
  • Love or symbolic love ensues.
  • Many people die and unnatural naturals are the key to ending all war (despite the fact that they seem to be the ones escalating the war when things quite down)
  • Girl is mistakenly killed or unnaturally 'Renewed' like in Logan's Run but remains 'alive'
  • Boy ends war with newly developed unnaturally natural talents discovered during continual piloting of super mech or newer super mech
  • End of Line

It is basically the same plot of Brain Powerd, Overman King Gainer and others, or so I've read. Hmmm...

Come to think of it, this sounds awesome. It's all so clear to me now. Why bother with reinventing the wheel when the one you have rolls so well? Unnatural naturals ARE the answer!
Thanx Netflix!

Now- if only I had a super mech and could somehow find a way to live in space..

Currently waiting for: Overman King Gainer - I want to see it!!! Loan me your subbed DVD and I will be your best pal :]
